Tips for Thriving During the Downturn part 2

In this economic climate, many are struggling to get a handle on their financial and their income generating potential. The same challenge faces many of our nonprofits today.   In their recent article “9 Innovations That Are Helping Charities Thrive in the Downturn”, a few nonprofits shared some of the innovative ideas that are working for them.

  • Change How Campaigns Work – Several universities, that either started fundraising campaigns prior to the recession or since its onset, have found it helpful to change their approach to the public.  They’ve found it useful to extend the length of the quiet phase of their fundraising campaigns by using the early years to do some strategic planning and targeted, donor specific approaches. The approach requires the creation of a much broader prospect portfolio and a significant investment of time with donors, but it is yielding results.
